  • A new Urban Quarter for Bern

    Professor: Vittorio Magnano Lampugnani
GSD Option studio: Planning a piece of the city
    Semester 5
This project investigates how open-ended public space, over time, generates a successful urban quarter. Public space in its purest form is ‘an area, open to everyone, free of charge for a variety of uses that accommodate enjoyment, equality and democracy'. As such, indeterminate spaces are flexible, open-ended, and versatile. With time, they provide the backdrop that allows people to determine how they want to use their built environment.
I used the arcade as a mechanism for these open-ended public spaces acting as a connecting device for the urban quarter.
